This majestic 1.5 litre SS saloon came off the production line in late-1939 but is infact an early example of the 1940 model year as distinguished by the fitment of ‘air conditioning’, picnic tables and a variety of other changes from the previous year. With production ceased in July 1940 there was only a total of 668 cars built to this specification...post-war cars no longer had the picnic tables and this was a feature not seen again until the production of the Jaguar Mark 8. , Reputed to be 1 family owner and obviously well cared for over the years. , Drives exactly as you would expect with all the correct noises and a distinct vaguery to the steering due to the fitted cross ply tyres. , The tan hide is in excellent order with evidence of a couple of repairs adding to the over all presence. The wood dash and picnic tables are without damage and the instrumentation is as per original......all gauges are working, however the fuel gauge has the odd off day ! Steel sliding roof works and is watertight. , Turn the key and press the starter, the old girl bursts into life and quickly settles down to a steady tickover..........select gear and drive away without fuss..........semaphores working correctly although the right side sometimes refuses to sit in its place!, , These pre war SS motor cars are becoming very hard to find with this 1940 model year now a very rare thing. An easy car to own, enjoy and maintain, spares are plentiful and an active club provides help and advice.
