Provenance:Built in 1980 to UK Specification it was supplied new on February 25th 1981 by Contim Motors Ltd Volkswagen and Audi Agents of Hayes Middlesex to Mr Hyde. His new 80 LS automatic was finished in Diamond Silver Metallic (Z4) with contrasting Azure Blue Checked Velour (GH) interior. The metallic paint was a £85.96 in addition to the £5742 list price. He also selected front fog lights and a Blaupunkt radio from the options list. The vehicle was used sparingly for the first couple of years before being mothballed around 1983, possibly due to ill health. It would however remain in the Hyde’s possession unti 2013 before going to into storage yet again until 2020. At this point the vehicle was extensively recommissioned although pleasingly with an eye to preservation of as much originality as possible so the original tyres for example are still fitted. In scarcely believable condition and with the original keepers’ family tenure spanning over 30 years and just 4,364 miles covered this really is as good as it gets. The car is supplied with a replacement book pack and service book and an original 1980 instruction manual along with a period Brochure and Pricelist. Both keys are present. The bumpers, lights, and badges are all correct and free from any damage or discoloration. The glass is all factory with the correct markings including the windscreen. All factory stickers are also present and undamaged as is the supplying dealer sticker in the rear window. This really is a cosseted time warp car and could easily be used for period TV or Film production. Interior:Although spartan by modern standards the interior is a truly fabulous place to reside. The factory Azure Blue checked velour is in superb order and has recently benefited from a professional steam treatment to rejuvenate the foam. Consequently, the seats are in incredible condition. Totally free from any damage or wear to the bolsters, the fabric remains factory fresh and the springs taught and supple throughout. It would not be unreasonable to surmise that the rear seats may have never been sat in, their condition would certainly suggest so. The switchgear is all in superb order with no scratches or marking to the trim. Fitting with the incredible mileage the often tired, high contact areas of the cabin such as the leather steering wheel and gear knob show almost no signs of any use. The dark blue dash is unmarked and unfaded whilst the dials maintain their vibrant orange lume and the period Blaupunkt audio is pleasingly both still present and fully functional. The carpets and are now protected by a custom-made set of overmats. The boot area is effectively unused with absolutely no signs of loading damage or wear whatsoever and houses the unused spare wheel and tools.
