REF FX02PZP SMC Heritage are proud to present this incredibly special piece of Vauxhall and BBTC heritage, “the Astra 888 Coupe” build number 38 of 100. With just one driver since 2003 it has covered just 55,000 miles. Vauxhall in conjunction with Triple Eight commissioned just 100 bespoke ‘Triple Eight’ Astra T8 Coupés. It was built to commemorate Vauxhall's overall victory in the 2001 BTCC Based on the handsome Bertone designed Astra Coupe. A range of modifications were made to the interior, exterior bodywork and chassis. The engine, however, is unchanged – which means 192 PS at 5400 rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1950-5300 rpm from the smooth, 2.0 litre 16v turbo unit. To focus the already sharp handling, the Astra 888 Coupe was lowered, sitting on Eibach springs and dampers. Seventeen-inch ‘OZ Racing’ alloy wheels were fitted, shod with 235/40 Michelin Pilot Sport tyres compared to the standard cars 215 width tyres. The brakes featured an uprated Ferodo brake pad material, giving improved pedal feel. The Vauxhall Astra 888 Turbo’s standard interior was also given a makeover, including Sparco front sports seats finished in blue & black Alcantara. The same blue Alcantara is also used on the handbrake gaiter and gear change gaiter, while the alloy handbrake lever and alloy gear knob are unique 888 designs. The revised steering wheel trim is finished in blue Alcantara and black leather. The pedals feature 888 alloy extensions with the addition of a unique 888 alloy footrest. Finally, the centre console which houses the multi-function driver information display, ventilation controls and audio system is colour coded to match the Europa Blue exterior. On the outside, the car wears a unique 888 body-kit, comprising a front bumper splitter, rear wing, side skirts and wheel arch extensions to mirror those used on the BTCC race car. All Astra Coupé 888s were finished in Europa Blue ‘pearlescent’ paint. Provenance: #38 has been in the custody of one driver since 2003, although it has been registered to both his business and him personally during that time. The vehicle has remained in the same area for its entire life and the service book has 11 stamps documenting an average of just 3000 miles per annum. The car is supplied with all booklets and instructions in the leatherette folder including the radio card, previous MOT certificates and every Tax disc from new. The online VOSA MOT history aligns with the mileage and the car is HPI clear. Exterior: The exclusive Europa blue paintwork is in great order with only very minor stone chips to detract from the deep glossy finish. The unique 888 body kit is complete and undamaged. The wheels are unrestored are free from kerbing and still have the original OZ stickers in place, however they have some slight discolouration to the lacquer in places so we are happy to refurbish them in the factory anthracite finish should the new owner prefer. The headlights are free from chips and fading and the fog lights are also undamaged. Unusually The 888 Eibach suspension is also still in place Interior: The interior is a fabulous place to reside with factory Sparco sports seats and lashings of alcantara. The seats, door trims and carpets are undamaged and free from fading. The 888 Exclusive gear knob, pedals and handbrake are present as is the alcantara trimmed steering wheel. All the switch gear is correct undamaged and fully functional. The carpets have been protected from new by genuine over mats. Overview: On the road this 888 drives with all the smoothness and fluidity you that you only find with low mileage perfectly maintained examples.
